Exhibiting well-known and completely endearing breed traits, Rocco has an alert, saucy expression and feisty, terrier-like attitude. Graceful, proud, adventurous, courageous, and always animated, Rocco needs a confident, proactive, and responsible owner who understands pack leadership and will not let him develop Small Dog Syndrome or get away with things that a large dog wouldnt be allowed to get away with. Active, agile, and inquisitive, Roccos daily exercise needs are minimal and can be met with a short walk on a leash or a romp in the backyard for exploration and interactive play. Because of his small size, adventure-seeking nature, and willingness to protect his family (which will get him into trouble), Rocco should always be in a safely secured area or on a leash when outdoors, and he should always be accompanied by a family member under no circumstances should he ever be left unattended outdoors for any period of time. Once a timid, uncertain, and snappy purse-dog misunderstood, frustrated, and unhappy, Rocco is now a confident, happy, social, and extremely well-mannered Chihuahua. Attentive to humans, responsive to direction, and very obedient when he knows what is expected of him, much of Roccos success lies in not only his knowing the rules and boundaries, but also knowing theyll be consistently adhered to. Fawningly devoted and affectionate with people he knows and trusts, he can be reserved with strangers and if allowed to become a pack leader himself and/or not kept socialized, he will become undeniably suspicious of people outside of his family. Adorable and entirely sincere, he loves to be the center of attention, thrives on human companionship, and will always want to be included in family activities. Sweet, loyal, cheerful, funny, quick to please when he knows what is expected of him, and highly sensitive, Roccos family members will need to be consistently firm (never harsh) on the household rules to ensure that he keeps his good canine manners. Although a tiny toy-sized dog, hes highly intelligent with a larger-than-life personality and it would be a mistake to underestimate him. Sufficient exercise and continuing his training and socialization in an established daily routine will help to keep him a well-behaved canine. Rocco is best-suited for a home with a calm, laid-back life-style. Like many dogs, particularly those of the toy breeds, he has the potential to become snappy, timid, or even depressed if not protected from overactive or unruly children or any forms of harsh or disrespectful treatment. Although Rocco gets along very well with the canines and felines he currently lives in a foster home with, a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be necessary prior to adoption.
