And heart and soul a terrier she is. Intelligent, agile, keenly alert, inquisitive, and a bit on the serious side, she is also an extremely loyal and entirely sincere canine who learns quickly and responds to training with enthusiastic ease. Remarkably perceptive, as well as intuitive, Abby has a great desire to please her people, she loves to be praised, and she will devotedly follow preferred family members everywhere she is able to. A well-mannered canine who is affectionate with people she knows well, she is reserved and can be very aloof with people she is not familiar with and at times she can show a single-minded, stubborn side. Social and friendly with most other canines, even playful with some, Abby can be pugnacious and has on occasion shown a low-tolerance for energetic or very outgoing large dogs and dogs with unruly or unmanaged behavior, particularly females. She also has a strong prey drive which means she can fixate-on small animals, including cats, and when outdoors, she will give chase to those who run if given the opportunity. A lively, compact dynamo with a feisty and fearless nature, Abby is best suited for a home with a calm but moderately active lifestyle, no cats, and no active, young children. Her new family must be willing to provide a structured environment with clearly established rules and boundaries, as well as firm, but never harsh, follow-through right from the start. Her new family should expect to continue her training and socialization and be willing to meet her intense need to be a much-loved, high-functioning, always involved canine family member and pet. A meet-n-greet with any household pets will be a must prior to adoption. Note: To avoid Little Dog Syndrome, Abby simply needs family members who provide her with consistent direction and confident leadership on a daily basis. Having made amazing progress since she was first rescued from a life of long-term and nearly fatal neglect, Abby welcomes new days and any opportunity for accomplishment with a spunky, confident, can-do attitude.
